ASSESSMENT

Purposeful Evaluation. Student Growth. Christ-Centered Confidence.

At HOPE Academy, we believe assessments are most valuable when used to understand and support the whole child—not to define them. Through intentional, age-appropriate evaluations, we can better partner with parents, differentiate instruction, and help students thrive in a Christ-centered academic environment.

Kindergarten Preview Day: Joyful Readiness

Our youngest learners are welcomed through Kindergarten Preview Day, a special morning designed to:

  • Introduce children to the HOPE environment

  • Provide hands-on learning experiences in a low-stress setting

  • Allow our faculty to observe early academic and developmental readiness

Through creative play, small group interaction, and gentle one-on-one activities, students are assessed in a joyful, encouraging atmosphere. This helps us:

  • Place students in the best setting for success

  • Begin early identification of learning strengths or support needs

  • Build confidence and connection before the school year begins

This experience sets the tone for a positive school start—for both students and their parents.

Admissions Assessment (Grades 1–12)

As part of the admissions process, all incoming students in grades 1–12 are required to complete a placement assessment.

This allows us to:

  • Understand each student’s academic readiness

  • Ensure students are placed at or near grade level

  • Determine eligibility for our Learning Support Program, if applicable

  • Equip teachers to meet students where they are on day one

This assessment is not pass/fail—it’s a tool to serve and support our students well.

Annual Standardized Testing: IOWA Assessments

Each spring, HOPE Academy students take the IOWA Assessments, a nationally recognized standardized test that evaluates performance in:

  • Reading

  • Language Arts

  • Math

  • Science

  • Social Studies

We use this data to measure growth, guide instruction, and ensure our curriculum remains both challenging and developmentally appropriate. Because of our healthy approach to learning and testing, HOPE students typically experience little anxiety around standardized assessments.

Additional Grade-Level Testing

  • 9th & 10th Grades: Students take the PSAT on campus

  • 11th & 12th Grades: Students take the SAT or ACT independently as part of their college readiness path

Ongoing Classroom Assessment

Throughout the year, teachers use a variety of formal and informal assessments to monitor progress and adapt instruction. This includes:

  • Quizzes and tests

  • Project-based learning presentations

  • Observations and discussions

  • Group and independent assignments

These tools provide a full picture of student understanding—academically and personally.

“Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance.” – Proverbs 1:5
